48. Sludge:
A mixture of solids and water produced during the settlement and treatment of sewage.
49. STP:
Acronym for Sewage Treatment Plant.
Also referred to as:
WWTP (Wastewater Treatment Plant/System).
ETP (Effluent Treatment Plant/System).
50. Surface Water:
Rainwater runoff from sealed surfaces such as roads and car parks.
A measurement of the solids in suspension in sewage, influent, and effluent.
Normally expressed in mg/l or parts per million (ppm).
52. Tertiary Treatment:
Further treatment applied after aerobic treatment and settlement to improve the quality of the final effluent.

53. UV Disinfection:
A tertiary treatment method using ultraviolet (UV) light to kill microorganisms in treated effluent.
Applications:
Disinfected effluent can be reused for non-potable purposes such as:
Toilet flushing.
Irrigation.

Often used interchangeably with sewage.
