Sewage Treatment Terminology Explained A-Z Part 4; F to K; Ferric Sulphate to Kjeldahl Nitrogen

Introduction

Welcome to our education blog explaining terms used in sewage treatment from A-Z. Part 4 is from Ferric Sulphate to Kjeldhal Nitrogen.

In Part 4 of our A-Z guide, we cover sewage treatment terms starting with F to K. These terms are integral to understanding sewage and wastewater treatment processes, especially in relation to package sewage treatment systems.

22. Ferric Sulphate (FeSO₄):

  • A chemical commonly dosed into sewage treatment plants to reduce Phosphorus (P) levels in wastewater.

23Final Effluent:

  • The treated effluent discharged from a sewage treatment plant after completing all treatment stages.

24Final Settlement Tank:

  • See Humus Tank.

  • A tank where settleable solids are separated from effluent after the aerobic (Biozone) stage of treatment.

25. Foul Sewage:

  • Untreated sewage, often referring to raw wastewater entering a treatment system.

26Humus Tank:

  • A tank used to separate humus (settleable solids) from the effluent.
